The Air intelligence Unit of Goa Customs struck Gold on Christmas and Seized 1.086 kg Gold worth around Rs 31.03 lakh from the toilet of Air India flight at Dabolim Airport on Tuesday.
According to information, the whole exercise was conducted under the overall guidance of R Manohar, Commissioner of Customs.
According to R Manohar, the Air India flight had arrived from Kuwait at Dabolim Airport. “While performing duties during arrival of Kuwait-Goa-Chennai Air India flight Al-976 on Tuesday the Customs officers of Goa Customs headed by NG Patel, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, under the supervision of TR Gajalakshmi, Additional Commissioner of Customs, Goa, rummaged the aircraft and recovered assorted gold jewellery weighing 1.86 kg valued at Rs 31.03 lakh which was kept in a plastic bag and was placed in the toilet of the said aircraft,’ he said.
“The modus-operandi was to pass the gold jewellery to some domestic passenger boarding from Goa. The Customs officers inquired about the ownership of gold from the passengers but no passenger came forward to claim the ownership. The said gold was seized under the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under progress. In April, Goa customs at Dabolim Airport has seized 7.145 kg gold valued at Rs 2.14 crore, Foreign Currency worth Rs 36.38 lakh and commercial goods in trade quantity worth Rs 38.09 lakh,” said Manohar.
